This is the fourth of five posts on simple facts about alcohol. The kind of facts most people don’t realize.

The first week, we looked at how alcohol is addictive to human beings. Drinking more than you want is not your fault.

The second week, we noted how the terms alcoholic and alcoholism are no longer recognized medically. Good! The outdated stigma keeps people from living their best lives. Instead, we use the term Alcohol Use Disorder.

Last week, we pondered these questions:

  • Have I ever woken up in the morning and wondered why I drank more than I wanted to, and was I upset that I felt like shit, yet again?
  • Have I ever woken up and felt sad or disappointed that I didn’t drink the night before?

This week, let’s really think about that.

There isn’t one day when it happens. Over time, many of us begin to choose alcohol because we believe it augments life. DESPITE the fact that often, much of the event is hazy or lost. Or we don’t sleep well. Or we feel like crap the next day. Or any number of worse scenarios.
How is that an even tradeoff? What else would you do repeatedly that has such consequences?

Could alcohol be holding you back from life? Dulling your shine?

And that map, which is yours alone, is a beautiful thing all by itself.
